Modafinil (Provigil)![]()
This is a newer version of its predecessor Modafinil, it lasts 15 hours rather than 12 and contains only the R-stereoisomer. It has been approved for usage as a eugeroic since 2007 in the United States for conditions like sleep apnea and narcolepsy. Some have found it beneficial to use on a off-label basis for treating ADHD, Chronic Fatigue, and depression. Many claim it enhances cognition significantly on a temporary basis by making you more alert. | Modafinil, commonly sold as Provigil, is considered one of the first groundbreaking eugeroic drugs to hit the market. It has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of various wakefulness disorders such as narcolepsy- a condition resulting in excessive daytime sleepiness, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder. For those people without wakefulness disorders, this drug is often used on an off-label basis for cognitive enhancement by means of altering the CNS levels of histamine. Also, research has shown that it boosts working memory, but the long-term effects are relatively unknown.
